A Good Text for Germany-Bashers!

The leader of the French Left, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, is quoted in Spiegel-online with the following:

"None of those who have a desire to enjoy life wants to be a German. At least we (the French) are happy to have children. There will be more French than Germans in 15 years. The 'German model' is not fit for people who enjoy living. Germans are poorer than the average, their life is shorter, they don't want to have children and foreigners are leaving Germany because they don't want to live with Germans".

Not a bad wording; not bad at all!

  1. There are more people moving to Germany than to France.

From Wikipedia - The Left Party (Parti de Gauche, PG) is a French democratic socialist political party. It seeks to emulate the German political party Die Linke led by Katja Kipping and Bernd Riexinger.

Seems Mr. Mélenchon is happy to slander Germans, but not too proud to copy them. Yet another French windbag, like Hollande and Sarkozy and all those before them.

  2. Wierdly, I found both my quality of life, and my enjoyment of it, increased greatly when I moved to Germany.

The low birth-rate, yes, is wierd. I'd put that mostly down to the lack of all-day schools, very limited childcare, and generally a family infrastructure that has been quite deliberately designed to make it possible for a woman to stay at home and look after the kids.

But what it actually does, is make it extremely difficult for a woman to have a career as well as kids.

Melencthon, incidentally, had a policy of the Bank of France creating unlimited Euros, in defiance of the ECB, during his presidential campaign.

In short, he's a windbag and an idiot. Fortunately, most senior french politicians aren't.
